Texting is a pretty straight forward process. Once enabled on both devices you press the menu key and choose the option to sync between devices.

Tap on it and it takes you to the updated info for your google account. Then it goes away. No other changes are needed.

Yes, setting up Google Voice will give them a phone# they can give to their friends to SMS back and forth. They can then use the Google Voice app on any Android device (including tablets) to send and receive SMS.

The taskbar is only active on devices where the smallest width is set to 600 or higher. My Lenovo M9 originally had this set to 640, when I set it to 599, the taskbar disappeared.
