WEBMar 4, 2014 · The Timmy definitely does not have more gain than the SL. They're two very different animals. The SL Drive is one of the better Plexi-in-a-box pedals I've played, especially considering the size and price. It does various Plexi flavors (super lead, super bass) very well - it's very dynamic and responsive.

WEB15,853. Jul 26, 2015. #12. The Timmy is a better option for pushing you amp. It also has controls for bass and treble, these frequencies need tweaks when you start turning up. The BB is also good and if used with the gain set low it will be clean, it just sounds a bit different then teh Timmy.

WEBMay 17, 2017 · (bump) Kinda went into this Xotic-gain rabbit hole (i.e. EP Booster, RC Booster, AC Booster, BB Preamp 1.5). Those are all great pedals in their own respects. FWIW I run those into a solid-state amp (Roland Jazz Chorus). I'm wondering if one can get lows from the SL Drive (I dislike typical overdrive pedals that skim off lows)?

WEBMar 10, 2024 · I have the Secrer Preamp under my board, always on, matched to 0db with it on or off. I also have the Xotic EP on top of my board as a boost. The EP is a great beast in that it has the switches inside that allow you to be your own sound tech by setting the pedal knob to 0 and getting a perfect +3db boost out of it when engaged.

WEBMay 2, 2020 · The EP preamp and output mixer remain completely authentic to the EP-3. Some folks have tried to get around the impedance issue by discarding the EP-3 output mixer and just using a 100kΩ pot in conventional manner. In A-B blind testing I can hear the difference. The one with the output mixer sounds sweeter. Peter.

WEBNov 1, 2020 · Me too. I took a bit of a hiatus in between, but I have had and used a BB preamp for over 10 years. Now I used the BB MB. In the top 5 pedals ever, for me. In fact I would ditch my Klone before my BB.

Myself I prefer mini Spark, as in my tests it was the cleanest decibel Booster, placed last in pedal board signal chain for solo boosts, while maintaining all aspects of the incommining audio sound and distortion aspect from prior pedals.

The Xotic EP Booster is a good boost, but as far as I know it's not an accurate Echoplex preamp, more of a regular boost with lots of bass, which didn't work for me in a band situation, although I loved it at home.
